Graduate-related Educational Opportunity Department Activities

  1. Administer programs that help provide financial support for graduate students:

    • National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM) Graduate Fellowship Program, primarily for engineering students

    • King-Chavez-Parks Initiative Future Faculty Program –financial assistance for graduate students interested in teaching at the postsecondary level

    • Michigan Space Grant Consortium Undergraduate and Graduate Fellowship Program – competitive awards primarily for mathematics, science, technology, aerospace, space, Earth systems science, and aeronautics-related research project.

    • Summer financial assistance for graduate students who teach for either the Summer Session and/or the Summer Youth Programs

  2. Attend and/or participate in graduate program-related events targeting the recruitment of underrepresented students: 

    • Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Partnerships – recruitment of underrepresented graduate students

    • Florida A&M University (FAMU) Feeder Conference – manage booth for recruitment of underrepresented graduate students

    • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers National Conference

    • National Society of Black Engineers National Conference – manage booth for recruitment of underrepresented graduate students

    • American Indian Science and Engineering Society National Conference

  3. Assist faculty who recruit graduate students of color.
